On the recently organized biennial World Skills Competition, Ruchi Pareek, a graduate of Information Technology from Poornima College of Engineering batch 2013, created history by contributing immensely to the victory of Pranav Nutalapati, a competitor from India.

Considered to be the Olympic of Skills, the World Skills Competition is held once every 2 years, with the 2019 chapter concluding on 27th August in Kazan Russia. The 45th edition of the Olympic of Skills saw the participation of 1,345 young and skilled professionals, who came from 63 different countries of the world to showcase their proficiency in 56 skills. An unforgettable event, the moment of glory for India came when the Silver Medal for web technologies skills was announced in favor of the country.

Ruchi Pareek: India’s Daughter Who Made It Possible

India’s competitor for the competition in Web Technology Skills, Pranav Nutalapati, had the hopes of the entire country on his shoulders. And winning over the expectations, Pranav bagged the silver medal in his category, with the help of Ruchi Pareek as his mentor. Handpicked by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Ruchi Pareek has been the national expert in web technology skills and is also the co-founder of Smalt And Beryl Pvt Ltd.

Talking about the scale and level of competition, Ruchi recalls the staggering numbers that the team was facing. More than 1300 participants from around the world, and the odds of going against some of the most skilled young professionals would have shaken anyone, but not Ruchi. The stakes were really high. One of the main competitors in the event was 17 years old, the youngest ever. It is really inspiring and motivating to see such young minds being so passionate and committed to honing their skills and showcasing them on such a large stage.”

Where others might have staggered, Ruchi stood firm with motivation and determination to ensure that team India gave their best. Talking about the stakes of the competition, Ruchi very beautifully describes what it all means for her and the participants: “This is not just a skill competition. This is the competition of a person’s endurance, this is the competition of a person’s perseverance, and this is the competition of a person’s crisis management”.

India’s Best Performance Ever

A part of the World Skills Organization since 2007, India showcased its best performance in the history of its association with the competition. Leveraging their game multifold, the sharp increase in participants from 28 in 2017 to 47 in 2019 was an inspiring moment in itself. India also participated in more skill-based events than last time, a whopping 43 in comparison of 2017’s 26 events. Bagging 19 medals and attaining an overall position of 11th in the standings speaks volumes of the caliber and potential our children hold.
